Five decades of smiles, one patient at a time

Founded in 1974, our practice has been shaping healthy smiles across West Michigan for more than 50 years. What began as a small neighborhood office has grown into two convenient locations serving Grandville and Grand Rapids/Kentwood.

Orthodontist

Dr. David Armbrecht

Dr. David, the son of Dr. Gary, grew up in Grand Rapids and completed his undergraduate degree at Northwestern University. Subsequently, he completed dental school at Boston University School of Dental Medicine, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Dr. David carried on the Armbrecht tradition with his specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Rochester Eastman.

When Dr. David's not in the office, he enjoys playing the guitar and accordion, and staying active with his wife, Sally, ballroom and salsa dancing.

Dr. Mark Wierenga

Dr. Mark Wierenga was born and raised in Grand Rapids, attended Grand Rapids Christian High School and completed his undergraduate degree at Calvin College. He completed dental school and orthodontic residency at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Southern California. Following graduation in 2014, Mark returned to West Michigan to join Drs. David and Gary Armbrecht in private practice where he has been helping people achieve healthy, confident smiles ever since.

Dr. Mark is currently on the board of the West Michigan Dental Foundation, an organization that gives scholarships to dental students and supports local non-profit dental clinics. When he's not at the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and nine-year-old twins, as well as being with friends and family.

Dr. Sara Schwager

Dr. Sara and her family recently relocated from Denver, Colorado, and are excited about the adventures and opportunities that await in the beautiful state of Michigan.

Born in North Carolina, and raised in Virginia, she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia and her doctorate at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). She then moved to the Midwest, undertaking a rigorous residency program at the University of Michigan, where she obtained her Master's degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.

Dr. Sara is an avid enthusiast of the great outdoors — a devoted hiker, backpacker and ultrarunner. Join us in welcoming Dr. Sara, her husband Matt, and their two children Eleanor and Henry to Grand Rapids!

Dr. Gary Armbrecht

Dr. Gary grew up in rural Ohio. After deciding to pursue dentistry as a career, he attended the Ohio State University School of Dentistry and completed a residency in orthodontics at the University of Rochester Eastman.

Dr. Gary started Armbrecht Orthodontics in 1974. He continues to stop in the office from time-to-time to say hello and check in.

When he is not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Chris, his children, and his grandchildren both locally and at their farm in Leelanau County.
